Come for the Hulk/Thor reunion, stay for writer-director Bart Layton’s fist-tight crime thriller, pitting Hemsworth as a gentleman jewel thief and Ruffalo as the killjoy cop sworn to hunt him down. Speaking to Esquire, Layton didn’t deny he was shooting for the vibe of crime classics like Heat, Thief and The Getaway: “They were grown-up, intelligent, Saturday-night popcorn movies, and I definitely felt like, ‘Wouldn’t it be great to bring something of that back?’”

Pixar! Is there a surer stamp of animated excellence? The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is an animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros., and follows The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which was released in 2023 and earned more than $1.3 billion worldwide. Both the 2023 film and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are produced by Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo.

The film will be co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo and will be released worldwide by Universal Pictures.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is directed by returning filmmakers Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, from a screenplay by returning screenwriter Matthew Fogel, with Brian Tyler returning to compose the score.

The late star’s chequered reputation means it’s taken an age for anyone to run with a Michael Jackson biopic. But Equalizer director Antoine Fuqua and lead Jaafar Jackson have no fear, celebrating the singer’s early years with the Jackson 5 and solo breakout, but never whitewashing the legend or ducking the hard questions. “Michael’s life was complicated,” producer Graham King tells Variety. “As a filmmaker, I look to humanise but not sanitise.”
